We serve over 1000 men, women, and children every day by providing food, shelter, clothing, counseling, vocational and spiritual guidance. We get to experience and witness radical life transformations. The Family Support Associate role is critical in instructing and providing guidance to homeless and at-risk children in activities designed to promote social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth in the childcare zone.
Primary Hours:
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm flexible for 1 late night per week, as needed
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Environment & Safety:
Maintains a clean, age-appropriate, and sensory-friendly space; ensures all equipment is sanitized and safe for communal use.
Curriculum & Engagement :
Executes weekly lesson plans and supplemental activities tailored to the developmental needs of children in transition.
Family Bonding:
Facilitates activities that encourage positive interaction and bonding between mothers and their children.
Holistic Care:
Provides attentive care and support for Mothers with infants (feeding, diapering) and academic support/tutoring for school-aged children.
Skill Building:
Leads group play to develop social, behavioral, and academic skills, focusing on following instructions and cooperative play and family engagement.
Behavioral Support:
Uses trauma-informed guidance to manage behavioral issues and de-escalate emotional distress.
Reporting:
Documents and communicates developmental or behavioral concerns to the Children's Resource Specialist and Services team.
Logistics & Events:
Assists with transportation for families and helps coordinate special facility events and holiday celebrations.
Volunteer Liaison:

Position Requirements:
Ability to work with minimal supervision Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Child Development, Child Development Associate Certificate or a related field is highly preferred At least 2+ years of experience working with children, preferably in a daycare, school, or shelter setting Demonstrated understanding of developmental milestones for both infants and school-aged children Ability to read, interpret, and lead weekly lesson plans and supplemental developmental activities Completion of Mandated Reporter Training within first 30 days of hire
Certification or License Requirements:
Teaching certificate or Child Development Associate Certificate (CDC) preferred and Adult & Infant CPR/First Aid certification Possess a valid driver's license
Supervisory Requirements:
Supervises individual and group volunteers working in childcare and others as assigned
Physical Job Requirements:
Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, sitting and/or walking) Must have the ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printer Must be able to communicate accurate information Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25lbs Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors, to adjust focus and maintain close and distance vision Ability to engage in active play, lift infants/toddlers, and manage the physical demands of a high-energy "KidZone" environment.
Environmental Job Requirements:
Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions during events Moderate noise as in a business office environment
