Chicago, IL OR Joliet, IL Compensation:
$90K-$120K (No standard billable hour requirement) Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Workers' Compensation Attorney to join our defense team. The attorney will manage a caseload of workers' compensation matters, represent employers and insurers in administrative hearings and civil proceedings, and provide strategic legal counsel to limit liability and control costs. The ideal candidate combines strong litigation experience with practical knowledge of workers' compensation law and proven ability to achieve favorable outcomes for defense clients. Key Responsibilities Manage a diverse caseload of workers' compensation claims from intake through resolution, including administrative hearings and appeals Prepare and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses in administrative and civil forums Represent employers, insurers, and third-party administrators at hearings, depositions, mediations, and settlement conferences Develop litigation strategies focused on defense, cost containment, and risk mitigation while collaborating with claims adjusters and clients Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda, briefs, and status reports on case developments and applicable law Negotiate settlements, including structured resolutions and lump-sum agreements, to achieve client objectives Monitor deadlines and maintain organized case files, ensuring compliance with procedural and statutory requirements Advise clients on compensability, causation, medical treatment disputes, vocational issues, and related employment matters Train and mentor junior attorneys and paralegal staff on workers' compensation defense practices and courtroom procedures Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school Admission to practice in Illinois 3+ years of experience handling workers' compensation defense matters, including administrative hearings and litigation Proven litigation and trial experience with strong advocacy skills in administrative and civil proceedings Solid knowledge of workers' compensation law, regulations, and medical/occupational terminology Experience representing employers, insurers, or third-party administrators preferred Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; ability to draft persuasive briefs and motions Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost-effective resolutions Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage a high-volume caseload and competing deadlines Professional demeanor, ability to collaborate with clients and claims professionals, and commitment to client service Benefits $90K-$120K Medical, Vision, Dental 401k For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
