Director of Immigration Legal Aid

Job Description Due to the nature of this work, this position requires a three year commitment intension . The Director of the Tree of Life Immigration Legal-Aid will be responsible for all aspects of running the immigration legal services at Tree of Life.

These responsibilities include:

working with other legal staff to provide legal services, recruiting and mentoring volunteers, fundraising, creating a hospitable environment for clients and overseeing publicity/networking, engage in continuing education about US immigration law and policy, read all immigration law updates that impact Tree of Life's caseload. Because Tree of Life Anglican Church is first and foremost a Christian ministry, the Director of our legal aid services will also help foster relationships and interactions that allow clients and others in the community to experience the reconciling love of Jesus Christ, both in word and action. The clinic director should attend Tree of Life Anglican Church most Sundays and affirm the church's mission. The Director is expected to keep regular clinic hours and work at least 15 hours a week most weeks. Hours can be much more than 15 hours depending on how many cases the director choses to take on. The Director must keep careful legal records of all immigration law activities at Tree of Life. Prerequisites The director must be a college graduate (B.A. or B.S.) and a US Citizen. The director must have excellent cross-cultural skills, be organized, and have a good working knowledge of basic computer programs. He or she must either be a DOJ partially or fully accredited representative, be willing to obtain such accreditation, or be an attorney who has passed the Indiana State Bar. Supervision The Pastor of Tree of Life Anglican Church is the primary supervisor of the Director of the Immigration Legal Aid. Since the pastor is also a DOJ representative, she may also serve as the legal supervisor Tree of life Immigration Legal Aid while the director gets accredited. Tree of Life Mission Council (Vestry) shall also oversee the fulfillment of the mission of the legal services. The director may also recruit and maintain an advisory board for the legal services. Compensation The Director will be paid $30 an hour for all work associated with legal services. Currently there are no additional benefits associated with this position. The clinic director may take up to 21 sick days and up to five weeks of vacation. Unused sick days and vacation days will not role over to the next year.
