Description:
Description Special Prosecutions, an elite unit within the Office of the Attorney General, prosecutes criminal cases across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, representing the Commonwealth in all manner of cases, including, but not limited to, homicide, sexual assault, human trafficking, drug trafficking, election law violations and thefts against the treasury of Kentucky. As a Staff Attorney III, you will be responsible for complex cases assigned to Special Prosecutions. The ideal candidate exhibits trial experience, strong organizational skills, and is self-motivated and directed. This person must be comfortable working with other attorneys, police agencies, victim advocates, and crime victims and their families.
Responsibilities will include:
Prosecute criminal cases throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky Provides assistance to local prosecutors Respond to requests from the general public for information regarding legal issues Respond to election calls Represent the Commonwealth on appellate matters arising during the course of criminal cases.
The ideal candidate will have:
Good attention to detail Hearing and trial experience Knowledge of criminal law statutes Strong analytical ability Good organizational skills A willingness to work with a team Preferred skill: Three years of experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of criminal law Come join our team and make a difference in Kentucky.

Experience, Training, or Skills :
Must have two years experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of law. Substitute Education for
Experience :
A Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) will substitute for one year of the required experience. Substitute Experience for
Education :
None Special Requirements (Age, Licensure, Regulation, Etc.) : Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky OR comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rule (SCR) 2.111 (limited certification of admission to practice), SCR 2.112 (attorney participants in defender or legal services programs), SCR 2.117 (practice pending admission). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials. Working Conditions Duties are performed primarily in both office and courtroom settings. Travel is required. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in
KRS 18A.111.
