Job Description

The Team We are seeking a Counsel (Employment/Litigation) to join American Tower's UST Legal organization. The UST Legal team provides strategic and day to day legal guidance to the Company's leadership, management, and Human Resources teams across U.S. operations. This role is closely aligned with both Corporate and U.S. Tower HR teams and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with employment and labor laws, managing employment litigation, and supporting business objectives through proactive, practical legal counsel. Day to day, this role focuses on advising on employment matters, managing litigation strategy, and partnering cross functionally to mitigate risk and enable the business. What You Need to Succeed Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one state bar required. Minimum 6-8 years of experience specializing in employment law, either in-house or at a firm, with experience overseeing outside counsel required. Previous experience managing a team preferred. Expert-level knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws. Strong strategic and problem solving skills. Approximately 20% travel may be required in support of the position's responsibilities, including visiting the Boston office on a regular cadence. Strong organization, planning, and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines. Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results. Strong leadership skills; ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results. What You Can Offer Us Provide federal, state, and local employment and labor law advice and support for all U.S.-based operations. Advise Human Resources and business leaders on hiring, termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, and internal investigations. Manage all domestic employment-related litigation and disputes (and, as a member of the litigation team, will handle certain general commercial litigation), including strategy development, pleadings, all facets of discovery, settlement guidance, and oversight of outside counsel. Negotiate, draft, and review employment-related agreements and develop and deliver employment law training. Research and stay current on employment, labor, and litigation law developments and communicate relevant changes internally. Demonstrate excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential information. As a Counsel, you are responsible for the recruitment (where applicable), performance management and career development of a Supervising Attorney and their team as well as a Specialist. You'll also be expected to cultivate a collaborative team dynamic that enables us to meet business objectives. Other duties as assigned.
