Deputy Public Defender

The Platte County Public Defender's Office in Columbus, Nebraska has an opening for a Deputy Public Defender. The position is open immediately and criminal law experience is preferred, but not required. 3L students taking the bar in the Summer of 2026 are encouraged to apply.

Position Overview:

Our three-attorney office represents clients in criminal (misdemeanor and felony) and juvenile (delinquency and abuse/neglect) court appointed cases. Working as a Deputy Public Defender, you'll gain trial and appellate experience from seasoned mentors while managing a diverse caseload.

Compensation:

A Nebraska law license is required prior to your start date. The Deputy Public Defender position starts at $75,000, but salary will be based on criminal law experience.
