Job Description
Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Family Law Attorney to represent clients in a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody and support, adoption, domestic violence, and prenuptial agreements. The successful candidate will provide compassionate, practical legal counsel, advocate for clients in negotiations and court proceedings, manage a varied caseload, and work collaboratively with colleagues and outside professionals to achieve favorable outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent clients in family court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and emergency motions.
Provide clear, practical legal advice to clients on divorce, custody, support, adoption, restraining orders, and related family law issues.
Draft and file pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and other legal documents accurately and on time.
Negotiate settlements and participate in mediation or collaborative law processes to resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively.
Conduct legal research and stay current on statutory changes, case law, and best practices in family law.
Prepare clients for hearings and trials, including witness preparation and evidence organization.
Maintain responsive and compassionate client communication, manage expectations, and preserve client confidentiality and trust.
Work with experts (e.g., forensic accountants, child psychologists) and coordinate discovery, depositions, and subpoenas as necessary.
Manage caseload, deadlines, billing entries, and case files using firm case management systems to ensure timely and organized practice.
Participate in community outreach, pro bono services, and professional development activities to support access to justice and firm growth.
QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the state bar and in good standing in the jurisdiction where practice will occur.
Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing family law; candidates with 1-2 years of strong family law exposure or relevant clerkship experience will be considered for junior roles.
Proven courtroom experience and comfort with litigation, hearings, and trial practice in family court.
Strong negotiation skills and experience with mediation and collaborative law approaches.
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, with attention to detail in drafting pleadings and agreements.
Demonstrated ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Empathetic client management skills and ability to handle sensitive emotional issues professionally.
Familiarity with e-filing systems, case management software, and standard office technology.
