Job Description
Family Law AttorneyPosition OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Family Law Attorney to join our firm and provide dedicated legal representation for clients in all areas of family law. The ideal candidate will handle divorce, child custody, support, and related matters with professionalism, compassion, and courtroom experience. This position requires strong negotiation and litigation skills, the ability to manage a case load independently, and a commitment to delivering client-focused outcomes through effective advocacy, mediation, and settlements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide legal counsel and representation for clients in divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, division of assets, and other family law matters.
Prepare and file pleadings, motions, discovery responses, settlement agreements, and other legal documents in state and family courts.
Advocate for clients in court hearings, pre-trial conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
Conduct client consultations, case strategy development, and regular communication with clients regarding case status, options, and next steps.
Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting client interests.
Gather, review, and analyze financial records, custody evaluations, and other evidence to build persuasive case strategies.
Collaborate with paralegals, investigators, social workers, and other professionals to support case preparation and client needs.
Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and comply with ethical and professional standards, including confidentiality and conflict-of-interest rules.
Stay current on developments in family law, local court rules, and best practices in mediation and dispute resolution.
QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in the state of practice.
Minimum of 5+ years of experience practicing family law, with a proven record handling divorces, custody disputes, and support cases.
Demonstrated trial experience and comfort representing clients in court proceedings.
Proficiency in mediation and alternative dispute resolution techniques; certified mediator preferred but not required.
Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable settlements for clients.
Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to manage a diverse caseload, prioritize tasks, and work independently as well as part of a team.
High level of empathy, professionalism, and client-service orientation, with the ability to handle sensitive family matters discreetly.
Familiarity with state family law statutes, local court procedures, and resources related to child custody evaluations and support calculations.
