Job Description

Are you a collaborative and service-oriented municipal attorney who can prosecute municipal ordinance violations, advise elected officials and department heads, and provide practical legal guidance in a fast-paced local government environment? If so, apply to be the City of Alamogordo's next Assistant City Attorney! We're looking for an exceptional legal professional who is: Skilled in municipal law, litigation, and legal research Comfortable working across departments and advising public officials An effective communicator with strong writing and courtroom skills Alamogordo is a vibrant and scenic community of approximately 32,000 residents located in southern New Mexico and often referred to as the "Gateway to White Sands National Park." Nestled between the Sacramento Mountains and White Sands National Park, the community offers a unique blend of outdoor recreation, natural beau­ty, and small-town charm. Alamogordo is also conveniently located within 60-90 minutes of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and El Paso. Texas. The City Attorney's Office provides legal counsel and representation to the City Commission, City Manager, boards and commissions, and all municipal departments. The new Assistant City Attorney will report to the City Attorney. The ideal candidate will be an ethical, collaborative, and adaptable attorney with experience in municipal law, litigation, prosecution, or related public-sector legal practice.
Required qualifications include:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school Two (2) years of litigation experience (clinic litigation experience considered) Licensed to practice law in New Mexico, or ability to obtain licensure within one year Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Must be bondable Preferred qualifications include: Municipal law experience Prosecution experience Experience advising public agencies or governmental entities Strong courtroom and public presentation skills The salary range for this position is $62,473 - $96,852, depending on experience and qualifications.
