Job Description
The Department of Business and Industry, Nevada Attorney for Injured Workers, is hiring for a Senior Deputy Attorney in our Las Vegas office. This position reports to NAIW's Administrator. Deputy attorneys in the agency take direct responsibility for legal representation of appointed clients, including developing evidence and presenting evidence at formal administrative hearings and, if necessary, brief the district courts and the Supreme Court on appeal. The deputy attorney position requires direct contact with numerous clients, review of large amounts of medical evidence, and presenting testimony at frequent but short evidentiary hearings. Good legal research and writing skills are expected for District Courts' review of appeals officer's decisions and appeals to the Supreme Court, if necessary. Graduation from an accredited law school is required. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with staff and maintain efficient workflow. Excellent client-facing communication skills are also essential when working directly with individuals in need of legal representation. Given the volume of assigned cases, the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate effectively with support staff is critical. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to analyze and marshal available evidence, and to apply relevant statutes and case law to support successful client outcomes. Comfort and proficiency in evidentiary hearings, including the ability to carry the client's burden of proof, are required. A current license in good standing to practice law in the State of Nevada is required at the time of employment. This position reports to NAIW's Administrator.
