Job Description

A confidential national defense law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its Philadelphia personal injury defense team. The attorney will handle defense-side civil litigation matters, including automobile collisions, premises liability, and general tort claims, representing corporate and individual clients in state and federal courts. This role requires managing matters from intake through resolution or trial and providing clear, strategic guidance to clients.
Responsibilities:
Manage a substantial caseload of personal injury defense matters, including case intake, investigation, discovery, motions, and trial preparation. Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other litigation documents; conduct legal research and prepare substantive legal memoranda. Review, analyze, and organize medical, employment, and other records to assess liability and damages. Prepare for and participate in depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials; coordinate with experts and witnesses. Handle court appearances, oral arguments, and motion practice in Pennsylvania state and federal courts. Negotiate settlements and advise clients on exposure, risk management, and litigation strategy. Maintain accurate case files using case management and e‑filing systems; ensure timely calendaring and compliance with court deadlines. Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active admission to the Pennsylvania bar in good standing. Minimum of 3 years of defense-side personal injury litigation experience; experience with automobile, premises liability, and general tort defense preferred. Demonstrated courtroom experience, including depositions and trial participation. Strong legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills. Proven ability to manage a high-volume litigation caseload and prioritize competing deadlines. Professional client management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and colleagues. Familiarity with Pennsylvania civil procedure, rules of evidence, and e‑filing systems. Ability to work onsite with the Philadelphia team and to travel as required for hearings, depositions, and trials. Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional growth within a nationally resourced defense practice.
