The Arapahoe County Attorney's Office is seeking to fill an Assistant County Attorney I/II position. The Arapahoe County Attorney's Office is a full service in-house public law firm that represents and advises the County and its elected officials, departments and employees on a wide spectrum of legal matters. The person selected to fill this position will work with a friendly team of local government attorneys with substantial expertise in their fields, and have an opportunity to make a positive difference for the residents of the County. This position works under the guidelines and direction of the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney and is responsible for providing legal advice and representation on a range of topics, to include land use and zoning. Assistant County Attorney II Requirements:
Juris Doctorate Degree with a license to practice law in the State of Colorado. 3+ years of experience in the practice of law.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB
The Assistant County Attorney I represents the Board of County Commissioners, other county elected officials, departments and employees on various litigation and non-litigation matters. This job works under the guidelines and direction of the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney.DUTIES:
Represents the County and/or its elected officials and employees in legal proceedings in state and federal court, and in administrative proceedings. Attend meetings and executive sessions of Board of County Commissioners and other meetings as requested. Provides oral and written legal advice to the Board of County Commissioners, its elected officials, employees and boards. Conducts legal research on various topics. Independently investigates facts and reviews findings for substantiation. Drafts and reviews contracts, leases and other legal instruments and documents on behalf of the County. Drafts policies, regulations, ordinances, and resolutions. Reviews and monitors proposed legislation that has a potential impact on the County. Provides assistance to Assistant County Attorneys on legal cases and issues.REQUIREMENTS
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Knowledge of legal research techniques and ability to effectively and accurately conduct legal research on wide range of topics. General knowledge of relevant legal principles applicable to local government practice. Ability to use a personal computer for e-mail, calendaring, word processing and to conduct legal research. Ability to investigate and process factual information effectively, and to apply legal rules to factual situations accurately. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively when faced with a high volume of work and multiple deadlines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, elected officials, fellow employees and the general public.
