Our firm is grounded in more than 150 years of collective experience among our founding partners and offers a collegial, supportive environment where attorneys are empowered to grow their practice and contribute to sophisticated, high-stakes litigation, regulatory and transactional matters across the maritime sector. We are currently inviting applications from attorneys with three (3) or more years of legal experience, preferably with a focus in maritime, environmental, or energy law, though we also welcome candidates with a solid background in general civil litigation who have a strong interest in maritime practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and advance a varied docket of litigation or transactional matters
- Perform in-depth legal research and prepare high-quality legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, and related filings
- Work directly with clients to prepare them for depositions, hearings, and trial appearances
- Coordinate closely with partners, fellow associates, and support staff to drive cases forward
- Handle sophisticated and complex maritime litigation and transactions from inception through resolution
- Utilize legal research platforms and case management systems efficiently
- Assist with on-site accident and incident investigations, including vessel and shipboard inspections
Required Qualifications:
- Active membership in the California or Washington State Bar
- At least three years of legal practice experience, with a preference for candidates with litigation backgrounds
- Proven capacity to work autonomously while juggling competing deadlines
- Collaborative mindset and professional, positive approach to teamwork
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective legal strategies
- Strong written advocacy and verbal communication skills
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) matching plan, etc.)
- Flexible hybrid work options to support work-life balance
- Meaningful mentorship and the opportunity to work alongside seasoned trial attorneys
- Engaging, collegial workplace culture At CWN, we take pride in our close-knit team culture, dedication to client success, and a work environment that values integrity, accountability, and innovation.
