Job Description

Family Law Attorney - Pleasanton, CA A confidential and growing family law practice in Pleasanton is seeking an experienced Family Law Attorney to join its team. This is a full-time opportunity for an attorney who understands both the legal and human sides of family law and can manage cases independently while working within a collaborative, supportive environment. The ideal candidate will be steady, practical, compassionate, and capable of handling the demands of a high-conflict family law practice. This is not a training role. The firm is seeking an attorney who can take ownership of mid-level family law matters without substantial hand-holding, while still having access to support for emergencies, brainstorming, complex issues, and backup when needed. Position Overview The Family Law Attorney will independently manage a caseload involving divorce, child custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, and domestic violence restraining orders. The practice is focused primarily in Alameda County and Santa Clara County, with Alameda County family law experience strongly preferred. Responsibilities The attorney will manage family law matters from intake through resolution; draft pleadings, motions, declarations, memoranda of points and authorities, discovery, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents; appear in court for hearings, conferences, and trials; conduct legal research; develop case strategies; negotiate settlements; represent clients in mediation; and communicate professionally and compassionately with clients. The role also requires the ability to manage high-conflict client communication, work effectively with opposing counsel and court personnel, maintain accurate files and deadlines, and collaborate with support staff and firm leadership to deliver high-quality client service. Qualifications Candidates must have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, an active California Bar license in good standing, and at least 4 years of family law experience. Strong knowledge of California family law procedures and practice is required, along with experience independently handling court appearances, hearings, and case management. Strong legal writing skills are also required. Candidates must be able to provide a memorandum of points and authorities as a writing sample. Compensation & Benefits Compensation ranges from $160,000 to $200,000 annually, depending on experience. The role includes a 1,400 annual billable hour requirement, tracked as 350 hours per quarter. Benefits include hybrid work flexibility, a unified PTO bank of three weeks per year, a 401(k) plan with a 3% employer contribution, State Bar membership fees, approved CLE courses, and health, vision and dental. Work Arrangement The role is hybrid. During the first 30 days, at least three days per week in the Pleasanton office is preferred. After that, the schedule may vary depending on the attorney s experience and independence. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced family law attorney who wants autonomy, meaningful client contact, courtroom responsibility, and room to grow within a busy family law practice.
