PKS Law Group, P.C. is a growing California law firm representing housing providers, property owners, management companies, and affordable housing operators throughout the state. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Fair Housing attorney to join our team. This is primarily a remote position. Initial onboarding and training will be conducted in person at our Northern California office to ensure a smooth transition and integration into our team. Following onboarding, the position will be remote, with occasional in-person meetings, court appearances, client meetings, or firm events as needed. Position Overview The Fair Housing Attorney will advise and represent housing providers on a wide range of fair housing, compliance, and litigation matters. This position combines client counseling, administrative advocacy, and litigation, providing an opportunity to develop specialized expertise in one of the most dynamic areas of housing law. The attorney will assist clients with reasonable accommodation and modification requests, fair housing compliance issues, lease enforcement matters, landlord-tenant disputes, and discrimination claims. The attorney will represent clients before the California Civil Rights Department (CRD), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and in state and federal courts when necessary. Responsibilities Advise clients regarding compliance with federal, state, and local fair housing laws. Analyze and respond to requests for reasonable accommodations and reasonable modifications. Counsel housing providers regarding disability-related issues, assistance animals, occupancy standards, and fair housing compliance. Draft policies, legal opinions, correspondence, demand letters, and compliance-related documents. Prepare responses to CRD and HUD complaints and investigations. Represent clients in administrative proceedings before CRD, HUD, and other regulatory agencies. Defend housing providers in fair housing and related civil litigation. Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and other litigation documents. Assist clients with lease enforcement matters, breach of lease issues, and other landlord-tenant disputes. Conduct client trainings and educational presentations regarding fair housing compliance. Qualifications Active membership in the California State Bar. 3+ years of experience in fair housing, landlord-tenant law, employment law, civil rights litigation, administrative law, insurance defense, or regulatory compliance strongly preferred. Excellent legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills. Strong client communication and counseling abilities. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while effectively collaborating with team members. Experience handling administrative agency matters is a plus.
