The ideal candidate will be client-focused and results-driven, handling all phases of litigation including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, negotiations, mediations, and trial preparation. This role requires strong advocacy, sound judgment, and the ability to achieve favorable outcomes while maintaining high ethical and professional standards. Key Responsibilities Manage a diverse caseload of personal injury and civil litigation matters from client intake through resolution or trial. Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement demands, and other court filings. Prepare for and take or defend depositions; prepare witnesses and preserve testimony for trial. Develop case strategy including liability and damages analysis, evidentiary plans, and settlement positions. Represent clients at mediations, settlement conferences, pre-trial hearings, and in court proceedings; try cases when necessary. Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, insurers, and third parties to obtain optimal client results. Work with experts (medical, accident reconstruction, vocational, economic) to build and present cases. Maintain accurate case files, document client communications, meet court deadlines, and handle time/billing records. Collaborate with support staff and mentor junior attorneys or paralegals as needed to ensure efficient case management. Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding case status, strategy, risks, and expected outcomes. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in the hiring jurisdiction(s). Minimum 3+ years of civil litigation experience with demonstrable work on personal injury matters (years flexible based on firm size and candidate strength). Proven experience in litigation tasks including drafting pleadings, discovery, motions practice, and courtroom advocacy. Strong skills in client counseling, negotiation, and litigation strategy with a track record of achieving favorable settlements or verdicts. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain organized case documentation. Comfortable conducting and defending depositions and participating in mediations; readiness to prepare and try cases when necessary.
Nice to have:
hands-on experience with trial work, vehicle accident cases, depositions, and mediations; prior experience coordinating expert witnesses and complex discovery.
