Position Overview We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with experience in civil litigation to join our firm. The successful candidate will handle a broad caseload of civil matters, support partners and senior attorneys, manage discovery, draft and file pleadings, advocate for clients in hearings and depositions, and contribute to case strategy and client counseling. This role requires strong legal research and writing skills, courtroom experience or the ability to develop it, and a collaborative approach to client service. Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters from intake through resolution, including pleadings, motions, and trial preparation. Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, motions, and other court filings with attention to detail and persuasive legal analysis. Handle discovery, including written discovery, document review, e-discovery processes, and preparing and responding to interrogatories and requests for production. Prepare clients, witnesses, and exhibits for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials; take and defend depositions as needed. Appear in court for status conferences, hearings, and other proceedings; advocate effectively before judges and opposing counsel. Collaborate with partners and colleagues on case strategy, settlement negotiations, and risk assessment; manage client communications and provide regular case updates. Work with paralegals and support staff to organize case files, manage deadlines, and ensure compliance with court rules and firm procedures. Contribute to business development and firm initiatives by participating in client meetings, drafting proposals, and maintaining professional networks. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the VA state bar in good standing. 2+ years of civil litigation experience in a law firm or similar legal environment; experience with trial practice preferred. Proven legal research and writing skills; ability to prepare persuasive briefs and motions. Practical experience with discovery and e-discovery tools, depositions, and courtroom proceedings. Strong analytical, organizational, and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines. Excellent oral advocacy and interpersonal communication skills; client-centered approach. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; high ethical standards and professionalism.
