Job Description

Seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented attorney to join our public defense legal team in representing indigent parents and children facing child welfare proceedings- dependency, guardianship, and termination of parental rights. Responsibilities Litigation through all phases of the child-welfare proceedings from shelter-care hearing until reunification, or termination of parental rights, including, but not limited to court-appearances for review hearings, pre-trial litigation; trials, if no agreement is reached. Attend and participate in out-of-court- sessions, including meetings, that are geared towards the resolution of cases. Attend all scheduled meetings to address services and the general welfare of the clients. Communication, and collaboration with DCYF, and necessary professionals to ensure efficient and expedient case resolution. Schedule and attend meetings with the clients, including driving to the clients' locations for meetings and in-person visits. Other tasks as may be assigned and necessary. Skills Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw, and Lexis+ Proficiency in legal writing. An ability to effectively litigate cases and represent clients in court. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Must be willing to drive to clients' locations for meetings and in-person visits. Must be located in WA state, or willing to relocate. Bar Admission
  • WA state license is preferred
  • Recent graduates, newly admitted attorneys, and out-of-state attorneys are encouraged to apply.
  • Will consider WA state Admission and Practice Rule 8 or Rule 9 candidate if the candidate qualifies and is willing to be admitted in WA state.
