Job Description

Promotional-only job: You must have permanent career status as a City of Berkeley employee in order to be considered for this position. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the city-wide position of Office Specialist III! This is a continuous recruitment, and the resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies in various departments throughout the year. As an Office Specialist III, you will perform difficult to complex tasks by applying your specialized skills, thorough knowledge of relevant procedures, and independent judgment. Duties include developing documents and reporting systems, providing information and customer service to the public and to City staff, and producing complex charts and visual aides. You may also assign and monitor the work of a small group of support staff. College level courses in general business subjects such as business practices, information technology, and related subjects are highly desirable. The exam process will include, but may not be limited to: Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date) Review of Supplemental Questionnaire Administrative Review - April 20, 2026 Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
