State law requires anyone who wishes to sue the state to first file an administrative claim with the GCP, which determines the merit of such claims and maintains digital records of them for possible use in litigation. The GCP recently completed a major scanning project and has over 200,000 document images, which need to be collated, converted to PDFs with Optical Character Recognition, and saved in a digital database. The student assistant team will also answer phone calls from claimants and other state departments, conduct research, and coordinate with the GCP's analyst team to provide responses to inquiries. This is important work that serves the public, so if you are enthusiastic, service-oriented, and comfortable using cloud-based applications, such as Adobe Acrobat, the Microsoft Office Suite, and SharePoint, this might be a great job for you. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. 62 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Demonstrate strong logical reasoning and sound judgment in evaluating situations. Communicate effectively in writing with clarity and professionalism. Analyze information accurately, take appropriate courses of action, and maintain cooperative working relationships with those encountered in the course of work. Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Assists ORIM in the administration of the Government Claims Program (GCP) by digitizing claim records and entering them into a computerized database. Corresponds with the public and other state departments by phone and in writing. Assists ORIM with monthly billing in accordance with departmental policies and procedures by validating and investigating statements to resolve customer disputes, preparing and submitting billing files and researching customer data from ORIM's claims management system. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
