Job Summary The Legal Support Specialist serves as a critical first point of contact for survivors seeking legal support and plays a vital role in gathering information essential to case evaluation, filing, and litigation. In this role, you will facilitate trauma-informed intake calls, gather detailed information from potential clients, maintain ongoing communication throughout the intake and discovery process, and support the legal team by preparing summaries, drafting documents, and conducting research. This position requires exceptional communication skills, empathy, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is professional, compassionate, and committed to JAA's mission of advocating for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. •This position is full-time, in office 4 days a week and 1 day remote, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. Essential Functions Client Intake & Communication Conduct trauma-informed intake calls with survivors and potential clients, ensuring a supportive, respectful, and professional experience Draft detailed narratives summarizing survivor experiences based on intake conversations Maintain accurate, thorough notes in the client relationship/communication management system Provide regular check-ins with clients throughout the intake, discovery, and record-collection stages Communicate with witnesses and additional parties as needed to support case development Case Development & Research Gather, verify, and summarize client information necessary for filing lawsuits and responding to discovery Conduct institutional, background, and perpetrator research to support case evaluation and strategy Request, track, and summarize medical, educational, and employment records Assist with preparation of memorandums, discovery responses, and other legal documents under attorney or paralegal direction Perform research assignments for active cases and succinctly summarize findings for the legal team Litigation & Administrative Support Draft correspondence and routine legal paperwork Assist with document assembly, scanning, copying, printing, and preparation of mass mailings Prepare assignment histories, timelines, and other supporting materials Support mediation and deposition preparation as assigned Participate in special projects and firm initiatives as needed Work Experience Experience with trauma-informed communication preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable software required Experience working with survivors of trauma, in a legal environment, or in another client-facing supportive role preferred Skills Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with survivors Keen interest in legal processes, terminology, and research Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-paced environment Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound, trauma-informed judgment Calm, empathetic presence and the ability to support individuals in crisis Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands of this position are consistent with a professional office environment. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, regular use of a computer and telephone, and the ability to move throughout the office, including between floors as needed. Occasional standing, walking, and participation in team meetings or firm events may be required. While no heavy lifting or physically strenuous activity is expected, the role may occasionally involve lifting or moving files, binders, or small office boxes (typically up to 10-15 pounds).
