We work closely with state and federal agencies to investigate claims of financial abuse and fraud and ensure financial service providers follow the law. We foster innovation by encouraging the development of responsible financial tools that help all Californians thrive. We help enforce California laws and regulations by licensing financial services, products, and professionals and regulating franchises and securities offerings. DFPI employees conduct exams to make sure providers are following the law and our enforcement team investigates suspected fraud and scams.

ca.gov/about/what-we-do/ The Department of Financial Protection (DFPI) and Innovation's Broker-Dealer Investment Adviser Division is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Assistant to join our team. This position is located in the Sacramento office. This position offers hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, financial analysis, and administrative support within a dynamic government environment. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Compensation $18.27 to $24.62 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Strong organizational and communication skills. Basic understanding of finance or investment concepts is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to create and maintain an effective working relationship with management, staff, licensees and the general public. Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Financial Institutions Manager, the Student Assistant will: Assist with reviewing and processing broker-dealer and investment adviser filings. Conduct research and gather data related to industry trends and regulatory updates. Support division staff with administrative tasks, including document preparation and database management. Participate in special projects and help maintain accurate records. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment and may include a hybrid schedule. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
