Job Description
The Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys working on housing rights and tenant-defense matters, providing essential litigation, client-facing, and administrative support. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, committed to social justice, and eager to work directly with low-income, elderly, and disabled clients. Key Responsibilities Drafting & Case Support — Assist attorneys with drafting pleadings, discovery, motions, and other litigation documents; manage case files and document production. Client Services — Interview and assist clients, ensuring high-quality, compassionate service aligned with program priorities. Case Review Participation — Attend and contribute to weekly case review meetings. Advocacy Collaboration — Interface with California-based advocates and partner organizations on shared housing-rights issues. Community Engagement — Work with client groups and community-based service providers to support outreach and education. Policy & Procedure Compliance — Follow organizational policies, procedures, and case-handling standards. Training & Legal Updates — Attend trainings and stay current on changes in housing law and tenant-defense litigation. Additional Duties — Perform other tasks as assigned to support litigation and program operations. Qualifications Civil Litigation Experience — Prior experience supporting attorneys in a law firm, legal department, or similar setting. Commitment to Social Justice — Demonstrated interest in the legal needs of low-income, elderly, or disabled individuals. Case Review Skills — Ability to follow case review policies and procedures. Court Knowledge — Understanding of court processes, litigation timelines, and procedural requirements. Housing Law Interest — Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, housing rights and tenant-defense law. Client Interaction Skills — Ability to conduct interviews, investigations, legal research, and problem-solving. Communication Excellence — Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Team Collaboration — Ability to work closely with a small team; commitment to collaborative work. Cultural Competency — Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and maintain strong relationships at all organizational levels. Technical Proficiency — Competency with PC systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) and relevant databases. Transportation Requirements — Reliable transportation, valid CA driver's license, and appropriate insurance.
