Our practice focuses on strategic, results-driven litigation — from discovery through trial and appeal. We are a team of dedicated professionals who value excellence, precision, and integrity. We are expanding our litigation team and seeking a Paralegal / Hearing Representative who functions with the analytical and procedural depth of an attorney — someone capable of managing files, drafting pleadings, and independently representing clients before the WCAB under attorney supervision. Position Summary This role is ideal for an experienced paralegal or hearing representative who can think critically, write persuasively, and handle complex procedural and evidentiary matters. You will assist attorneys in all stages of litigation — including drafting petitions, coordinating discovery, preparing deposition outlines, and attending hearings. The ideal candidate possesses strong legal reasoning skills, familiarity with the Labor Code and WCAB procedures, and confidence to interact directly with clients, opposing counsel, QMEs, and judges. Core Responsibilities Case Management & Litigation Support Independently manage assigned case files under attorney supervision Draft and prepare legal pleadings including Answers, Petitions for Removal, and Objections to DORs Summarize medical reports, deposition transcripts, and discovery responses Prepare settlement documents (Stipulations, C&R, Addenda, etc.) Hearing & Representation Appear at WCAB hearings and status conferences as a duly authorized Hearing Representative Coordinate and conduct witness and QME preparation Manage settlement conferences and communicate outcomes to clients Client & File Development Draft correspondence to clients and opposing counsel Conduct detailed legal and medical record analysis to support litigation strategy Coordinate with adjusters, employers, and co-defendants regarding case updates and authority Procedural & Research Research applicable Labor Code and CCR sections Ensure compliance with filing deadlines, proof of service requirements, and case calendaring Assist in preparing arbitration briefs, removal petitions, and discovery plans Qualifications Minimum 1-5 years' experience in California Workers' Compensation Defense In-depth understanding of Labor Code, CCR, and WCAB procedures Ability to draft independently at a high professional level (petitions, letters, legal briefs) Experience attending WCAB hearings as a Hearing Representative Strong writing, grammar, and analytical skills (must draft clear, persuasive content) Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle high-volume caseloads Familiarity with EAMS, MerusCase, and Microsoft Office Suite Preferred Attributes Paralegal Certificate or AA/BA in Legal Studies or related field Experience managing discovery and medical record analysis Strong verbal communication skills with the confidence to interact directly with judges and opposing counsel Demonstrated ability to "think like an attorney" — understanding case theory, procedural posture, and strategy Military or first-responder background a plus (we value discipline, structure, and initiative) Why Join Hefley Law Collaborative environment that values professional growth and legal precision Direct mentorship from Certified Workers' Compensation Specialists Exposure to high-level litigation and complex legal argumentation Competitive compensation with merit-based advancement opportunities How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter detailing your workers' compensation experience and why you would be a strong fit for our litigation team.
