Job Description:
A top-rated nonprofit law firm serving the South Florida low-income community is seeking a highly motivated substantive paralegal for its Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). The LITC provides education to low-income and ESL individuals regarding their tax rights and responsibilities and represents clients in disputes with the IRS. The ideal candidate will have experience interviewing clients, familiarity with poverty law issues, and an interest in gaining experience in tax matters such as IRS collections and examinations. The starting salary is $39K, with compensation commensurate with experience. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Senior Attorney, the Paralegal will perform the following essential functions: Interview clients to identify facts, client goals, and legal issues Provide legal information, advice, and referrals under attorney supervision Assist in preparing legal and basic financial documents Conduct off-site client intake and community outreach Enter case notes into the case management database Handle administrative tasks such as collecting intake documents and identification Qualifications Commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and values Ability to accurately interview applicants and provide guidance under attorney supervision Strong communication skills with the ability to treat clients respectfully and maintain confidentiality Participation in weekly case reviews Proficiency in case management systems Strong telephone and message-taking skills Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively in a team environment Proven reliability and consistent attendance Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Ability to learn case management systems quickly Basic math and financial literacy, or willingness to learn Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion Professional demeanor with a client-service mindset Fluency in Spanish and/or Creole preferred For consideration please remit your resume All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
