Position Available - Legal Administrative Assistant Full-time (35 hrs/week) Level 201 Teamsters Local 214 Union Prosecuting Attorney's Office $17.78-22.02 per hour Looking for the opportunity to make a difference in the community? ALCONA COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position:
Legal Assistant (Full-Time): A. Under general supervision, perform a variety of tasks involved in the day-to-day operation of the Prosecutor's Office including, but not limited to, the processing of criminal files; providing assistance to law enforcement, opposing counsels and the courts; providing assistance to prosecuting attorneys; completing legal, administrative functions and performing related duties as required. B. Works under the general direction of the Legal Administrator and the Prosecuting Attorney. C. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties, but is not limited to these specific duties: 1. Serve as assistant to all prosecutors; typing legal and confidential materials; organizing, coordinating, and processing information; entering data in computer; and preparing warrants, subpoenas, and any other legal documents required to process a criminal file. Be able to effectively work with all prosecutors and take direction. 2. Provide information and assistance to attorneys; law enforcement personnel, organizations, agencies, officials and the general public regarding prosecutor policies and procedures. Screen calls and visitors. Respond to inquiries within the scope of authority and refer others to the proper person. 3. Process criminal files, including the opening and closing of criminal files, reviewing that all information is included that is necessary for the prosecutors to perform their duties, identifying and correcting any problems, filing, and organizing as necessary. 4. Answer incoming calls, screening and routing calls to the appropriate person and assist visitors. 5. Performs the duties of the Legal Adminstrator when absent. Assists with child support case management and victim advocacy services as needed. 6. Attends professional education and training sessions, seminars, and workshops as directed. 7. Typing; transcription; computer operation; telephone console operation; use of modern office equipment 8. Perform related duties as required Desired qualifications: General knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the Prosecuting Attorney and the workings of the office and criminal justice system. Ability to work effectively with the public and fellow employees, all prosecutors, all police agencies, and court staff. Must be able to emphatically and professionally respond/communicate in emotionally charged situations. Proficient with computers, Windows, Microsoft Office and related software applications. Excellent communication skills and time management. Must possess the ability to maintain attention to detail. As a representative of the chief law enforcement agent within Alcona County, must be able to conform both private conduct and workplace conduct with respect and fidelity to the laws, ordinances, constitutions and administrative orders of the United States, the State of Michigan, Alcona County and other local rules/regulations. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive, protected and personal information obtained during the course of employment. Ability to formulate solutions and seek assistance when unfamiliar matters arise. Must have a strong work ethic and a commitment to the fair and orderly administration of criminal justice.
