Novi, MI Job Details Full-time $17 - $19 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off Qualifications Microsoft Excel Filing Microsoft Office Organizational skills Typing Legal case management Full Job Description Job Description Established Creditor Rights Law Firm is seeking a Legal Assistant for assisting with legal matters throughout the debt collection legal process.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Type up and file basic legal documents and correspondence E-filing with various Michigan courts Provide administrative support to attorneys and enhance office effectiveness Assist attorneys in preparing for trials and court proceedings Handle communication with people involved in the case; witnesses, courts, attorneys, etc. Prepare and forward summonses and subpoenas, draft complaints, prepare and file discovery requests, prepare responses to opposing counsel, generate status reports Keep cases organized, monitor calendar/docket and deadlines, document files and input information Maintain Firm's court docket as needed Review incoming mail, enter data into Firm's collection system, forward to appropriate attorney Notify courts, opposing attorneys, and contract attorneys as needed Prepare and file Motions, IPO's, CSO's, Judgments; track for response; update file Ensure all claim files are coded correctly Ensure senior leadership is informed of any issues affecting the legal department Handle special requests from Firm attorneys or senior leadership accurately and in a timely manner Track actions and diary files for next action Troubleshoot issues and communicate changes Accurately enter data into files Accomplish department and the Firm's mission by completing related results as needed Complete tasks in a timely manner to avoid backlog and workflow delays Comply with all Firm policies and procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent organizational skills Excellent communication and follow up skills Ability to use the Firm's collection systems and software applications/services Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to self-motivate Ability to exercise independent judgment and prioritize Maintain quality results by following Firm standards Familiarity with pleadings and other legal documents General understanding of the legal process from suit to judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to communicate well with others Ability to work well individually or in a team Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well inter-departmentally Desire to work with others in achieving company and client goals Familiarity with pleadings and other legal documents
Other Work Requirements:
Participate in mandatory training and testing and meet passing criteria Train personnel as needed May be required to perform other tasks within the Firm as needed
