June 25, 2026, at 11:59 pm The Troy City Attorney's Office provides legal services to City Council, City Management, and the various boards and committees of the City. It does not provide private legal advice or have any private clients. The City Attorney's Office is the designated prosecutor for the City of Troy's criminal misdemeanor cases. The Legal Assistant I position focuses primarily on the below duties. DUTIES Prepare weekly court dockets for misdemeanor prosecution cases and civil infraction (traffic ticket) matters. Draft legal pleadings and compose correspondence. Interview victims and witnesses, explain court procedures and responsibilities to them, and prepare them for court proceedings. Obtain, summarize, and interpret evidence such as police reports, witness statements, toxicology/blood test results, and police in-car camera and body worn camera videos. Generate and review criminal and traffic records through Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN). Handle criminal discovery requests. Create legal forms. Serve as a liaison between attorneys, police officers, witnesses, court personnel, other City offices, and outside agencies. Provide assistance with jury trial preparation, including but not limited to subpoenaing necessary witnesses and evidence. Gather, review, and analyze legal updates, law journals, research data, and other legal material to identify pertinent articles, decisions, cases, and changes in the law. Respond to phone inquiries and citizen complaints and compose follow-up correspondence. Exercise initiative and independent judgment, apply specialized knowledge and experience, and interpret and explain rules, regulations and procedures to employees, the public and others under attorney supervision. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Associate of Arts and Science degree in a Legal Assistant program or a related field from an accredited college or university. Two (2) years of Legal Assistant or related work experience. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, and municipal ordinances and codes. Knowledge of legal terminology, principles, precedents, procedures, and research methods. Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with departmental personnel, City employees, Court personnel and the public. Proficient skill in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel and Westlaw. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a LEIN background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen (including marijuana). HOURS Regularly Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
