Job Description

Paralegal (Small Law Office) — We are a small, client-focused law office seeking a p aralegal to support our bankruptcy, criminal, and domestic practice while contributing to a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is highly organized, detail-driven, and genuinely enjoys helping people through stressful legal and financial situations. In addition to bankruptcy casework, the paralegal will have opportunities to assist across other practice areas, including domestic relations, criminal defense, and general litigation , consistent with the office's needs. Key Responsibilities - Conduct client interviews (in-person, phone, and/or video) to gather case facts and financial information. Assist clients with completing intake forms and financial questionnaires accurately and thoroughly. Ensure clients complete required credit counseling and debtor education ; track certificates and deadlines. Request, collect, and organize required supporting documents (e.g., pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, titles, creditor notices, lawsuits/garnishments, leases, deeds, appraisals, etc.). Input client and case data into bankruptcy and case management software (including bankruptcy software and Manage ). Prepare bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, and related documents for attorney review and for client review/signature. Compile and submit trustee-required documentation packets; ensure all documents are complete, properly labeled, and timely. Scheduling, Deadlines, and Procedural Compliance Schedule and track important deadlines, meetings, and court dates, including 341 meetings , document due dates, reaffirmation deadlines, and follow-ups. Maintain accurate calendars and tickler systems to ensure all procedural steps are completed precisely and on time . Assist with project management tasks related to bankruptcy proceedings (workflow coordination, status tracking, and file readiness). Reaffirmation Agreements & Post-Filing Support Receive and review reaffirmation agreements; assist clients in completing them as appropriate and route for attorney review. Maintain ongoing communication with clients throughout the case—status updates, document reminders, and answering routine process questions with professionalism and empathy. Coordinate communications with creditors, courts, trustees, and other stakeholders via phone, email, and formal correspondence. General Paralegal & Litigation Support (As Needed) Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, and other documents under attorney direction. Proofread and format documents to a high standard; maintain strong transcription accuracy. Manage case files efficiently, including data entry, e-filing (where applicable), and maintaining organized electronic and physical records. Support the office's client service standards and reputation by ensuring consistent, respectful, responsive communication. Required Qualifications Prior paralegal or legal assistant experience (bankruptcy experience preferred but not required depending on the candidate). Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and cases simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong phone etiquette and professional correspondence abilities. High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, document review, and proofreading. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with sensitive personal and financial information. Proficiency with common office software (Word, PDF tools, email, calendars); ability to learn specialized legal software quickly. Preferred Qualifications Bankruptcy experience (Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13) and familiarity with common trustee requirements. Experience using bankruptcy software and/or case management systems . Notary public (or willingness to become one), bilingual skills, or prior client-facing intake experience (a plus).
