Job Description

Joey Gilbert Law is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our fast-paced and aggressive criminal defense team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work directly alongside experienced trial attorneys handling serious and high-profile criminal matters throughout Northern Nevada. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, capable of managing multiple deadlines simultaneously, and comfortable operating in a demanding litigation environment. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the urgency of criminal defense litigation, and can confidently manage cases from beginning to end. This role requires strong familiarity with Nevada court filing systems, criminal procedure, and legal document management. Candidates should be comfortable communicating with clients, court staff, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies in a professional manner. Duties & Responsibilities Assist attorneys with all phases of criminal case preparation and litigation Draft, proofread, and file legal documents including motions, notices, affidavits, subpoenas, discovery requests, and sentencing materials Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research platforms Organize and review police reports, body camera footage, discovery, witness statements, and evidence Maintain and manage case files through MyCase and other case management platforms Track deadlines, hearings, court appearances, and filing requirements Communicate with clients regarding case updates, scheduling, and document collection Coordinate with court clerks, judicial assistants, opposing counsel, law enforcement agencies, and third-party providers Assist with trial preparation including exhibit organization, witness coordination, and courtroom logistics Perform administrative tasks including filing, calendaring, transcription, and data entry Filing & Court Experience Required Applicants must be familiar with electronic filing procedures and practices in Nevada courts, including surrounding jurisdictions. Experience filing in the following courts is strongly preferred: Second Judicial District Court (Washoe County) Reno Justice Court Sparks Justice Court Carson City Justice and District Courts Lyon County Courts Douglas County Courts Storey County Courts Candidates should understand the process of opening and closing case files with the courts, including initiating filings, notices of appearance, motions practice, disposition filings, and post-case closure procedures. Skills & Qualifications Prior criminal defense paralegal experience required Strong understanding of Nevada criminal court procedures and filing requirements Exceptional organizational and time-management skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced legal environment Strong legal writing and proofreading abilities Experience with legal document management systems and case tracking software Professional communication and phone etiquette Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion Familiarity with MyCase preferred Applicant Testing As part of the interview process, applicants will be tested on practical criminal defense paralegal skills, including: Opening and closing a case file with the court Drafting and electronically filing legal documents Navigating Nevada court filing systems Calendaring deadlines and procedural requirements General knowledge of criminal case workflow and court procedures Pay will depend on experience.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
