Job Description
Perez Morris is a women-owned business defense law firm headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, with offices in Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio, as well as Pennsylvania. We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional to fill the role of Legal Administrator/Assistant in our Workers' Compensation practice. This position will involve both paralegal duties and administrative tasks, supporting attorneys and managing case files, client communications, and document preparation. The ideal candidate will be familiar with workers' compensation laws, procedures, and the specific needs of defense-side legal teams to support our attorneys in workers' compensation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Administrative Support Assist attorneys who specialize in workers' compensation matters Schedule calls, conferences, mediations, hearings, and other events Schedule IMEs, send notices, send medical evidence to examining doctors, follow up for reports and file with all parties Maintain weekly docket of administrative hearings for workers' comp team Manage gathering, distribution and filing of evidence in anticipation of administrative hearings Manage continuances including communication with attorneys and Industrial Commission Manage video and diagnostic evidence including submission to the examining doctors, the Industrial Commission, and all parties Keep and update a tickler system for attorneys to manage their caseload Manage Excel spreadsheets including tracking new matters and IME scheduling Access, upload, and file documents within the Industrial Commission Online Network (I.C.O.N.) and BWC website. Scan and save documents to the firm's document management system Organize and assemble files for new matters Submit invoices for payment processing Answer phones and manage attorneys' calendars Perform other administrative duties as assigned by attorneys or paralegals Paralegal Responsibilities Assist attorneys in managing a caseload of workers' compensation defense cases, including preparing and filing documents, and drafting correspondence. Prepare, organize, and maintain case files, medical records, and evidence. Coordinate and prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials, including witness coordination and document preparation. Communicate with clients, third party administrators, opposing counsel and other third parties as needed regarding case developments. Assist in the review and analysis of medical and workers' compensation reports. Stay current with changes in the workers' compensation system and industry standards.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 4-6 years of legal assistant or paralegal experience preferably in Workers' Compensation Experience with filing in the Industrial Commission Online Network (I.C.O.N.) and BWC preferred Proficient to expert-level skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Familiarity with case management software and document management systems Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft clear, professional legal documents Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing deadlines Friendly, professional manner and appearance Adaptability, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Paralegal certificate or Associate's/Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies a plus, but not required This position is for our Columbus, Ohio office. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday), but additional hours could be required as necessary.
