Job Description

PSEA is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Administrative Assistant in our Wilkes-Barre, PA office. This in-person position mainly provides administrative support to the staff attorney and PSEA Legal Division. This position administers Legal Division programs and performs other assigned office functions.
Duties include:
Drafting legal documents using various software applications. Coordinating the staff attorney's calendar, tracking deadlines, and scheduling hearings, meetings, seminars events, and training sessions when necessary. Receiving and handling all correspondence for the staff attorney and other professionals. Coordinating complex projects and administering the PSEA Legal Services Policy and NEA Unified Legal Services Program at the region level. Reviewing, opening, and maintaining digital and paper case files and closing and purging files upon conclusion. Preparing legal pleadings and briefs consistent with applicable procedural rules and filing them with arbitrators, administrative agencies, and courts. Assisting with litigation preparation at the direction of the staff attorney. Communicating frequently with PSEA members, local association presidents, administrative agencies, arbitrators, opposing counsel, and various court systems. Reviewing, processing, and tracking all case-related time and expenses. Travel to local post-offices and courts when assigned. This position requires a highly organized individual with strong independent decision-making skills, who is committed to public education and union values. The ideal candidate must be able to handle confidential information with discretion and provide excellent client service. Candidates should excel in using various software applications and possess a high level of proficiency in complex English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
