Job Description

Neighbors Link Legal Opportunities Bilingual Paralegal/DOJ Accredited Representative Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, the law department of Neighbors Link, is offering a unique opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of immigrant New Yorkers in the Hudson Valley. Position Description We are seeking a full-time Bilingual Paralegal/DOJ Accredited Representative. The ideal candidate will be interested in learning about all aspects of immigration law, community-based legal services and immigrant advocacy and will provide immigration services under attorney supervision, including consultations, application assistance, and necessary follow-up services. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Completing training and applying for DOJ accreditation
  • Conducting confidential legal consultations to ascertain eligibility for immigration benefits under the supervision of immigration attorneys and/or DOJ accredited representatives
  • Completing immigration applications and petitions and compile supporting evidence under the supervision of immigration attorneys and/or DOJ accredited representatives
  • Drafting briefs, legal memorandum and other correspondence under the supervision of immigration attorneys and/or DOJ accredited representatives
  • Staying abreast of changes in immigration law and policy including participating in trainings
  • Tracking and managing accurate records of all work in NLCLP data collection/management systems to meet all NLCLP program deliverables and data for grant reports
  • Assisting in mail processing as needed
  • Translating documents and interpreting in client meetings both in person and virtually
  • Conducting legal screenings on Legal Helpline and providing limited scope legal services at legal clinics
  • Preparing and providing community education and Know Your Rights presentations via in person and virtual programming
  • Representing Neighbors Link in meetings with partners and funders
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English
  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
  • Compelling interest in immigration law
  • Knowledge of immigration law is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail in high volume position
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Since then, Neighbors Link has expanded to include centers in Ossining and Yonkers and provides a wide range of services to the immigrant community/immigrant New Yorkers; from ESOL to immigration legal services.
