Job Description

CRIMINAL DEFENSE PARALEGAL
(LEAD ROLE ) , Conway, South Carolina Our established solo-practitioner criminal defense firm in Conway, SC is seeking a highly experienced Criminal Defense Paralegal to take a lead role in case management and day-to-day operations.
THIS IS NOT A TRAINING POSITION.
We are looking for a self-directed, highly capable paralegal who can step into an active criminal defense docket and manage cases with minimal supervision.
WHAT THIS ROLE REQUIRES
Independently manage a full criminal defense caseload from intake through resolution Anticipate next steps in a case without direction for every task Stay ahead of court deadlines and filings Identify issues early and resolve or escalate appropriately Operate with ownership and accountability
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage criminal defense cases from start to finish Draft and file motions, pleadings, subpoenas, discovery, and correspondence Track court deadlines and ensure compliance Conduct legal research as needed Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel Prepare trial notebooks and case materials Attend court hearings as needed Maintain organized case files (digital and physical) Use legal technology and case management systems independently
QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years criminal defense paralegal experience (SC preferred) Strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong communication and organizational skills High attention to detail Comfortable with legal tech and self-learning systems

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position requiring 37.5-40 hours per week. This is not a part-time or flexible schedule role. Standard consistent weekday availability is required.
COMPENSATION
Hourly rate is based on an annualized compensation range of 45,000 - 55,000, adjusted for full-time hours & paid holidays Paid holidays are observed and already factored into overall compensation. The hourly rate reflects a full-time schedule with standard firm holiday closures.
IMPORTANT
: This is a lead-level independent role. Candidate must be able to function with minimal training and rely on prior experience and sound judgment.
