Overview We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Senior Legal Assistant to join our legal team. The Senior Legal Assistant (Bankruptcy) to the Legal Department is responsible for administrative support related to collections, active bankruptcy cases, and other legal matters. This role serves as a subject-matter resource within the team, handling complex and time-sensitive cases independently while mentoring junior staff. The position requires sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to manage competing priorities across a high-volume caseload. Essential Functions Maintains the company's internal legal database and ensures timely response to priority concerns for cases involving bankruptcy. Monitors active bankruptcy cases through their lifecycle (filing, automatic stay, proof of claim, plan confirmation, discharge, and dismissal), tracking deadlines and escalating issues to the Legal Administrator or counsel as needed. Processes and obtains timely approvals of legal invoices. Maintains accurate records of late/missing payments and other customer issues. Assists with situations involving repossession, insufficient funds, and other customer account issues. Conducts skip-tracing and asset/owner research using public records and online resources to locate property owners and information needed to collect payment, recover buildings, or support judgment filings. Prepares, formats, and proofreads legal documents (demand letters, proofs of claim, affidavits, correspondence, and filings) for attorney or administrator review. Provides general office support as needed, such as copying, faxing, filing, and mailing. Provides support for more junior legal assistants when complex issues arise. Other duties and projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
3+ years of previous experience in a legal environment in bankruptcy related matters 5+ years of total legal experience Experience with Salesforce preferred Strong research skills and the ability to find information using search engines Possess a strong work ethic with precise attention to detail
