Paralegal General Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing support to staff attorneys and Executive Director through document preparation, client and case management, and other office functions as needed. Provide referrals for counseling and shelter for primary and secondary victims of violence. This position will commute between Lubbock and Levelland offices.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Draft pleadings and orders 2. Scheduling appointments for attorneys, intake interviews, etc. 3. Setting up files. 4. Opening and closing of cases with District Clerk (with all required forms, fees, etc.) 5. Conducting Affidavit of Indigency appointments 6. Gathering information from Sheriff's offices or process servers for address and costs associated with service of process 7. Conducting client intake interviews when necessary 8. Assist receptionist with data-entry or application process when needed (running conflict check, going over application, forms, information latter, etc.) 9. Updating database Protective Order information 10. Dropping off and picking up orders at the courthouse; talking with court coordinators and/or with Judges on court dates 11. Contacting the Office of the Attorney General for information regarding child support and cash medical support and any other legal language required 12. Answering phones 13. Updating clients regarding case status 14. Handling incoming mail and distributing accordingly 15. Draft letters to clients 16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Attorneys and Executive Director. 17. Requires work in Lubbock, Levelland, and possibly other rural counties.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Paralegal reports to and is evaluated by the Executive Director. 2
EVALUATION:
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Executive Director. Evaluation includes specific duties and responsibilities of the position description, plus employee attitudes and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certified Paralegal who has completed relevant education. 2. Experience working in a law office or other legal experience, 3. Ability to handle large caseloads effectively and efficiently, 4. Ability to establish rapport with clients.
SALARY:
The salary for this position is negotiated between the individual and the Executive Director using the approved salary scale of the organization as a basis.
Pay:
$35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
