Job Description
About Hastings Law Firm Hastings Law Firm is a plaintiff's medical malpractice firm with a national presence, but headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. We represent patients and families who have suffered catastrophic injuries, brain injuries, birth injuries, and wrongful death due to medical negligence. Our firm invests heavily in technology and innovation. We use modern case management systems to keep our team organized and efficient. If you are someone who gets excited about using technology to work smarter, you will thrive here. The Role We are looking for a paralegal with 2 to 5 years of experience in personal injury or medical malpractice litigation who wants to grow into a long-term career in medical malpractice work. This is not a paper-pushing position. You will be embedded in complex, high-stakes cases from intake through trial while learning to think critically about medicine, causation, and strategy. The right candidate will have a strong foundation and the drive to develop into someone we rely on. What You Will Do Work directly with attorneys on all phases of medical malpractice litigation, from initial case evaluation through trial preparation Review, organize, and analyze large-volume medical records, identifying key entries and building case timelines Draft and file pleadings, discovery responses, correspondence, and other legal documents Coordinate with medical experts, including scheduling, record delivery, and follow-up Manage case deadlines, court dates, and filings with precision Use the firm's case management and AI-powered technology tools to streamline case workflow Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and opposing counsel Conduct targeted legal and medical research as needed Support trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness coordination, and trial binders
What We Are Looking For Required:
2 to 5 years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in personal injury or medical malpractice litigation Strong technology skills — you are comfortable learning new software quickly and are not intimidated by technology Critical thinking ability — you can read a medical record and start asking the right questions, not just summarize what you see Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when managing large document sets Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines without dropping the ball Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)Preferred:
Experience with case management platforms (Filevine, Clio, or similar) Familiarity with medical terminology and medical record review Paralegal certificate or college degree (helpful but not required if you have strong experience) Comfort with AI tools, data analysis, or legal technology Who Thrives Here You are curious. When you see a medical record, you want to understand what happened and why it matters — not just file it away. You take ownership of your work and hold yourself to a high standard. You are the kind of person who figures things out, asks smart questions, and does not wait to be told what to do next. You see technology as a tool that makes you better at your job, not as an obstacle. And you want to be part of a small, focused team where your contributions actually matter. What We Offer A firm that invests in your professional development and wants you to grow with us long-term Direct exposure to complex, meaningful cases — not assembly-line personal injury work Access to cutting-edge legal technology and AI tools built specifically for our practice Mentorship from experienced attorneys, including a board-certified personal injury trial lawyer with 24 years of experience Competitive salary and benefits including health insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with employer match, and paid time off A supportive, team-oriented work environment where your work is valued How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter telling us why medical malpractice work interests you and what you are looking for in your next role. We are less interested in a polished pitch and more interested in hearing how you think.Pay:
