JOB The Town of Truckee is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to become our newest full-time Parking Technician! As a Parking Technician, you will play a key role in keeping our Downtown community accessible, safe, and welcoming for visitors and residents alike. You will be expected to troubleshoot equipment issues, problem solve and assist customers in the field with professionalism and enthusiasm. This position allows you to work outdoors, engage with the public, and become an ambassador for the Town of Truckee. JOB DESCRIPTION
Under direct supervision, performs parking enforcement, parking meter maintenance, traffic control, and community relations duties in assigned area of Town; collects monies and processes deposits; issues citations; provides information and assistance to the public; and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties in support of parking enforcement operations in a civilian capacity. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. Positions at this level perform exercise limited independent judgment and initiative in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. This classification is distinguished from the Community Services Officer classification series in that the latter performs a greater variety of non-sworn field and administrative office duties in support of the Police Department including but not limited to animal control, vehicle abatement, and police records.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job. Serves as a liaison and ambassador for the paid parking program by educating visitors, assisting customers, and issuing parking passes to businesses and residents. Patrols assigned Town areas and responds to potential parking violations; enforces parking regulations; issues citations as necessary; contacts tow services to remove vehicles; contacts dispatch services in the event of a traffic incident or emergency. Repairs and maintains parking meters including troubleshooting mechanical issues, replacing parts, and cleaning meters to ensure proper and effective functioning; maintains meter repair log; coordinates major repair with third-party vendors. Collects monies from parking meters and processes deposits. Observes traffic situations; assists sworn and non-sworn staff in providing traffic control during accident or incident situations, special events, or other congested situations. Prepares and maintains reports, data, and other information related to parking enforcement and traffic control. Establishes and maintains positive community relations through programs, demonstrations, and public assistance regarding community and parking enforcement services. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
When working in an office environment, must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; ability to stand and walk between work areas may be required; positions occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. When working in the field, must possess mobility to work in changing site conditions; possess the strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards; to reach, twist, turn, kneel, and bend; to climb and descend ladders; and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various Town sites. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and to investigate incidents and reports. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment and tools.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and carry weights up to 45 pounds intermittently, with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employees work partially in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees also work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Positions may be required to work weekends and holidays and are required to drive from site to site during patrol.
