The Springfield Police Department is hiring a Traffic Services Officer to help keep our city safe, organized, and moving. This is a full-time civilian role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors, interacting with the public, and being part of a mission-driven team. As a Traffic Services Officer, you'll spend most of your day out in the community, responding to issues, helping the public, supporting officers, and handling situations that require professionalism, sound judgment, and strong communication. This role offers the opportunity to: Work in a position where every day is different Be part of a respected public safety organization Build experience in law enforcement and municipal operations Make a direct impact on the safety and functionality of Springfield's streets and public spaces What You'll Do In this role, you will: Respond to calls related to parking violations and abandoned vehicles Patrol public streets, parking lots, and special parking districts Enforce city parking regulations with professionalism and consistency Assist with traffic control at crash scenes, emergencies, and special events Serve as a visible and helpful resource for residents and visitors Answer questions and help connect the public to the right city resources This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable being outdoors, on the move, and working directly with the public . What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is: Professional, dependable, and self-motivated Comfortable working independently and making sound decisions Skilled at communicating clearly and confidently Calm under pressure and able to navigate enforcement-related interactions respectfully Organized, observant, and detail-oriented Committed to providing excellent public service This position is critical to operations and there are two shifts (shift preference determined by seniority.) These shifts include the following: Monday
- Thursday 6:00 a.m.
- 4:00 p.m. Tuesday
- Friday 8:00 a.m.

- Experience, Education, and Training 30 hours of college credit in any area of discipline from an accredited college; OR 2 years of employment experience dealing directly with the public.
PREFERRED
Experience in customer service or other public-facing work Experience resolving conflict or difficult interactions professionally Experience working independently with minimal supervision Experience applying policies, regulations, or enforcement procedures Computer experience, including data entry, email, and documentation Experience using radio communication equipment Familiarity with local streets, parking areas, and traffic flow Licensing/Certification Must possess a valid driver's license.
