BRIEF OVERVIEW
The City of Harrisburg is accepting applications for a Parking Enforcement Officer I in the Department of Public Safety - Bureau of Police. This is a civilian uniformed position supportive of police services. Accountable to and reports directly to the Administrator of the Unit.

DEFINITION
This is a civilian uniformed position supportive of police services. Accountable to and reports directly to the Administrator of the Unit.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION
Work is performed at the McCormick Public Services Center, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King City Government Center, and throughout the City of Harrisburg. Work involves the use of a computerized Ticket-Writer, vehicle boot (up to 25 lbs.), motor vehicle, and a portable radio. Employee is subject to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, odors, and adverse climatic conditions. Duties are typically performed weekdays on rotating shifts starting at 7:30 A.M. and completing at 5:30 P.M.; however, employee may be required to work evenings. Evening work hours will be assigned on the basis of seniority.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work involves but is not limited to the following: issues parking tickets and/or traffic citations City-wide. Testifies at court proceedings regarding issuance of tickets and/or citations. Places and removes vehicle boots as directed. Observes and reports problems relative to non-compliance in Residential Permit Parking zones and related matters. Posts and removes temporary parking restrictions as directed. Position requires extensive walking, standing and/or other continuous physical activity. Maintains regular, punctual and predictable attendance. Reports to work and remains at work in a productive condition which includes not being under the influence or impaired by the use of alcohol and/or drugs. Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and the general public. Completes all assignments in an efficient, consistent and timely manner.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other reasonably related duties in equal or lower job classifications as assigned by supervisory personnel. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor in accordance with Article XXX, Job Classifications, Section 1 provisions of the Basic Labor Agreement.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the geographical layout of the City. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to relate to the public in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to interpret facts and report objectively. Ability to understand and perform instructions. Ability to perform duties under general supervision. Ability to perform manual work involving physical dexterity under adverse work and climatic conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License, Class C.
