Join the Nevada County Probation team and benefit our community by supporting the courts and fostering positive change in the individuals we serve! As a Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) you will: Collaborate with Nevada County Superior Court, law enforcement partners, and other Health & Human Services departments. Investigate, supervise and support adult and juvenile clients in becoming productive members of the community. Recommend sentencing to the Courts and provide for the rehabilitation of clients. The ideal DPO candidate will be: Enthusiastic about the Probation Department's mission. A collaborative participant in department projects. A motivating force to help clients achieve goals through evidence-based practices. Deputy Probation Officer I is the preparative class of the series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties of increasing complexity. Deputy Probation Officer II is the advanced journey level in the class series. Incumbents are fully qualified to autonomously perform the full range of duties and exercise considerable independent judgment in providing supervision and counseling to a caseload of clients, conducting pre-court investigations, and recommending sentencing to the Courts. Work with one of the top probation departments in California! The Nevada County Probation Department conducts research to provide evidence-based programming for clients in the criminal justice system. Nevada County Probation prides itself in having the lowest prison recidivism rate in the state. The department works closely with the Nevada County Superior Court, treatment providers, law enforcement, and justice partners inside and outside of the County. Numerous Probation employees have earned awards at the state level for their hard work and dedication to the field. Much of this is due to the focus on hiring quality individuals combined with an emphasis on professional training. Education and Experience Required Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminology or one of the behavioral or social sciences or a related field. Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire. Compliance with all relevant pre- and post-employment training requirements of Penal Code sections 830 through 832 and section 6035, including: Arrest, search and seizure certification and State Board of Corrections mandated core training within twelve months of employment.
