 8530 Deputy Probation Officer (SFERS)Both the San Francisco Adult Probation Department and Juvenile Probation Department are seeking Deputy Probation Officers through a lateral recruitment. Arrest and Control course AND an STC-certified Probation Officer Core course. 

IMPORTANT

Individuals who are not currently employed full-time as a Deputy Probation Officer but have a minimum of two years of full-time experience in a California County Probation Department should not have a separation date greater than six months from the date of application.

Job DescriptionEach day, San Francisco Deputy Probation Officers (DPOs) have the opportunity to contribute to community safety by actively engaging with at-risk youth and adults. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 (please note that the following eligibility requirements will be verified during Background Investigation)

Training & Certifications:

Completion of a certified Probation Officer Core training course as prescribed by the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) and completion of a certified California POST or STC approved

Arrest and Control course.

Experience:

Two years of full-time (4160 hours) experience working in a California County Probation Department as a Deputy Probation Officer.

Education:

 Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the Social and Behavioral Sciences or Criminal Justice, or related field.

Age:

 Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that could affect job performance.

Driver's License:

Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver license to operate an automobile at the time of application and throughout the selection process. Possession of a valid California Driver License/Real ID is required prior to the date of hire.

Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process. Applicant will be required work a non-traditional work schedule i.e. evening, weekends, etc.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Oral Interview (60%)The Oral Interview will assess community involvement, interest and motivation, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and oral communication skills. The Oral Interview score will be used to place candidates on the eligible list. Candidates will be notified via email of their pass/fail status on the Oral Interview. Those that do not pass may request another opportunity to re-take the test no sooner than one (1) month from their previous attempt.

Supplemental Questionnaire (40%)The questionnaire will be reviewed and scored to added to the overall score.

The Supplemental Questionnaire will provide an applicant an opportunity to demonstrate the unique qualities that the will bring to SFAPD should they be hired.

Eligible List / Certification Rule Candidates that pass the Oral Interview and Supplemental Questionnaire will have their names added to the eligible list. Candidate names will remain on the list for a maximum period of 12 months. The Adult Probation Department has the option to hire any candidate on the eligible list ("Rule of List"). Therefore, placement on this list neither guarantees nor implies that you will be offered employment. The Adult Probation Department will administer the remaining processes outlined above to determine who shall advance further in the hiring process and be considered for appointment.

All selected candidates are required to successfully complete and pass a POST-guided Background Investigation, conducted in accordance with standards set by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, as a condition of employment.

Candidates that are not selected after the background process will be withdrawn from the eligible list and may re-apply two years from the date of their notification.
