TESTING, Thursday, June 18, 2026, REQUIRED. Under general supervision, the Probation Resource Officers are responsible for a variety of duties that support probation programs. These duties may include serving as truancy officers; providing support to the Adult Day Reporting Center; providing transportation to juvenile and adults both in and out of custody; conduct searches of person and places; seize contraband and property; counsel adults and youth and monitor progress in meeting rehabilitative objectives by sustaining a culture that utilizes Evidence Based Practices and the principles of Evidence Based approaches to programs in the corrections and probation field; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Probation Resource Officer is a Peace Officer position. This classification is responsible for the care, custody, supervision and or transportation of adults in custody or youth while in their custody, who are confined to a Juvenile Hall, a Juvenile Commitment Facility, or adults participating in various alternative-to-custody programs. Other assignments may include truancy enforcement, mentoring, Work Programs, Electronic Monitoring Program, Day Commitment Program, rehabilitative alternatives to custody program transportation, or other juvenile and adult supervision programs. Individuals selected for the position of Probation Resource Officer must be willing and able to work any shift on a rotational basis, as well as weekends and holidays. This position may also be subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments. Performs other related duties as assigned. Probation Resource Officer assignments could involve dealing with angry, hostile and potentially combative clientele, the possibility of bodily injury, and exposure to infectious diseases that can cause chronic illness or death. Some positions include exposure to offensive odors and bodily fluids and exposure to chemical weapons such as O.C. pepper spray, Conductive Energy Weapon and firearms. This classification is authorized to carry a firearm and Taser pursuant to Penal Code Section 830.5.

CLASSIFICATIONS SUPERVISED

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducts individual and group mentoring sessions Develops goals and objectives to modify truant behavior Increase youth school attendance by performing the functions of the Truancy Reduction and Intervention Program; Assists youth with gaining insight into themselves and their relationships with others by utilizing Motivational Interviewing; Monitors youth's and parent's progress in meeting objectives of SARB contracts; Enters information in logs and the department case management system May assist Deputy Probation Officers in the development of case plans and treatment plans for youth that are consistent with Evidence Based standards Facilitates Evidence Based Program groups Assumes custody of detained youth and complete booking process Advise newly detained youth of legal rights and contacts parents Remains alert for potential problems and takes measures to reduce tension and avoid violence; Serves as the department transportation officers for adults and juveniles Participates in training; May be required to perform emergency medical care Plans, organizes, and participates in recreational activities for at risk youth May be delegated special projects or assignments as needed.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE WITH
Behavior problems of juveniles and adults. Individual and group counseling techniques. Behavior modification techniques and principles for juveniles and adults. First Aid and emergency medical practices and procedures. Psycho dynamics and physical manifestations of chemical dependency. Evidence Based Practices, to include Motivational Interviewing Safe prisoner transportation procedures Principles of social and correctional case and group work. Laws relating to criminal justice. Community resources available to probationers Crisis intervention. Self-defense Arrest procedures. Appropriate use of force and security techniques. Rights and liabilities of peace officers. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Counsel, discipline, and control the actions of detainees. Recognize health and behavioral problems in juveniles and adults. Effectively respond to emergency or critical situations. Deal tactfully and courteously with people from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Exercise good judgment in handling potentially hostile situations. Effectively represent the Probation Department in contacts with the public, other County staff, and other law enforcement agencies. Analyze behavior patterns. Exercise sound judgment in assessment and treatment of probationers. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance. Cope with hostility and aggressive behavior. Prepare concise and clear reports. Maintain records. Drive an automobile to transport adults and juveniles.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the listed duties is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: One year of experience in supervising or counseling youth. Completion of advanced level course work in sociology, psychology, behavior sciences, or a closely related field is highly desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of high school diploma, GED or equivalent. Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid and appropriate driver's license. Must pass a pre-employment/pre-duty drug screening test and medical examination.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to climb, stoop, crouch and kneel; lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance; reach and lift objects above shoulders; physical ability to sustain extra physical effort for a substantial period of time to defend self and deal with violent/aggressive persons; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and FAX. Core tasks requiring physical abilities in the field or office include but are not limited to: Physically defend yourself using hands, arms, or feet against an attacking probationer or other individual. Physically subdue with the help of others a resisting or fleeing probationer. Handcuff a non-resisting person. Handcuff a resisting person. (Assistance is typically present when this task is performed) Run to assist others in an emergency or to get to cover. Running is for a short distance, typically 35-50 yards. Bend, extend, and twist your body such as when searching probationers, vehicles, and/or placing leg-cuffs or other restraints on a probationer. Put an actively resisting person in the seat of a car. (Assistance is typically present when performing this task.) Use your hands and fingers to search. Assist someone from a prone position on the ground to his/her feet using a lifting motion such as a handcuffed or moderately incapacitated person. Perform CPR. (This is typically two-person CPR) Walk up a flight of stairs. Run quickly up or down a flight of stairs. Drive a car as part of your probation officer duties other than commuting.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in office, courtroom, and outdoor environments; work is performed in varying temperatures; some work is performed in confined and noisy areas; continuous contact with other staff and the public, and driving a vehicle in all types of weather conditions
