Job Description
DIVISION
Court Support ServicesCLASS DEFINITION
This class is accountable for supervising the staff and operations of one or more large probation office locations.GUIDELINES FOR CLASS USE
Assignment of Chiefs I and II to large or small office designations will be determined by the Guidelines for Classification Use promulgated by the Supreme Court.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from a Regional Manager or other employee of higher grade.SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises probation staff as assigned.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans office work; establishes and maintains office procedures including procedures for security of evidence and money collected; develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding office policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; represents the Division in court proceedings; reviews and approves contents and recommendations of reports prior to submission to the court; reviews and responds to complaints involving staff performance or office procedures and policies; oversees security and maintenance of facilities and office equipment; assumes responsibility for the integrity and operation of the automated system; oversees court support services in the areas of intake, assessment, referral, evaluations, investigations, and/or supervision of clients referred by the court; may provide services to a caseload of clients; performs related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of criminal behavior; considerable knowledge of psychology; considerable knowledge of the social, cultural, economic, psychological, and legal issues influencing the attitudes and behaviors of clients and their families; considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; computer skills; considerable ability to relate to different cultural and economic backgrounds; considerable supervisory ability.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
A Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience conducting pre-sentence investigations and/or supervising clients referred by the court.Special Experience:
Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been at or above the level of Adult Probation Officer II.Substitutions Allowed:
A Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Incumbents are required to have a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a motor vehicle available for daily use.WORKING CONDITIONS
