REPORTS TO
Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, Assistant Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, Alternative Program Supervisor Serves as Home Detention Officer/Case Manager for the Porter County Juvenile Services with a primary assignment to the Home Detention Program. Responsible for the supervision of juveniles assigned to Home Detention supervision and other duties as assigned.
DUTIES:
Supervise program participants, as assigned and per guidelines of Home Detention & Home Visit policy. Ensure program participants are following their home detention rules, reporting any violation to the Juvenile Probation Department and/or local law enforcement. Perform random drug testing on program participants following system drug testing protocols. Perform random room searches per Home Detention & Home Visit policy. Confiscate non-illegal contraband following system contraband confiscation procedures and notify local law enforcement regarding illegal contraband discovered during a home visit. Aid Office Manager/Compliance Officer in the delivery of court notices (including bench warrants and court hearings) ensuring proper guidelines regarding legal service is given. Transport program participants, as directed. Enter contact notes on all participants regarding their participation and other incidents. Attend staff meetings and workshop/training seminars as requested or required by facility and/or state rules and regulations. Perform related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in related field such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology preferred, but not required. High School diploma or GED is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be a current resident of Porter County, Indiana or be willing and able to relocate to Porter County, Indiana within six (6) months if hired for the position. Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to obtain/maintain certification in first-aid and CPR, and formal training in crisis intervention, safety and security procedures. Working knowledge of adolescent development, motivational theory, and learning process. Understanding of juvenile justice system policies and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate, cooperate in a team environment, set and attain goals, make decisions and exercise independent judgment according to established guidelines, being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to maintain detailed records, prepare related reports and documents, and maintain confidentiality of system reports and information as required. Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including lifting/carrying objects, crouching/kneeling, bending, reaching, close vision, hearing, handling/grasping objects. Ability to type with speed and accuracy and operate a variety of office equipment including computer, copier, fax, audio and video equipment, and telephone system. Ability to operate a variety of safety and security equipment, including temporary mechanical restraints, EPI-PEN, two-way radios, portable fire extinguishers, and vehicle. Possession of valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record. Ability to submit to and pass a criminal background check, Indiana sex offender registry check, national sex offender registry check, and Department of Child Services check.
