View Internship Testimonials Internship Objective Stearns County Community Corrections is an agency providing probation and parole services for adult and juvenile clients in the Seventh Judicial District. With oversight of a Community Corrections Supervisor, the position of Community Corrections Intern is responsible for assisting two agent mentors to assure public safety and facilitate positive change in client behavior. Internship Opportunity Interns will begin with a comprehensive orientation of Community Corrections and the Criminal Justice System as a whole. A competency contract will then be established, which will outline specific goals and objectives to be completed during the internship. Internships will provide an opportunity to explore all units within the division and alternative areas within the Criminal Justice System as they are available. Examples of experience received may include: Chemical use assessments Collaboration with community service providers Court presentations Report writing experience including, but not limited to violation reports and discharge reports Site visits to juvenile placements and adult facilities Client supervision (including home, school and employment contacts) Parole hearings Pre-sentence and pre-dispositional investigations Restitution investigations Utilization of client services tracking systems and other designated programs Qualified candidates will possess the following: Current enrollment in an accredited college pursuing a degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or closely related degree. Undergraduates must be in their junior or senior year. Graduate students may apply at any time during their program. Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher. Ability to commit to 400 hours for the internship. Reliable means of transportation to travel to multiple locations around Stearns County, some of which may not be accessible by public transportation. Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the utilization of appropriate resources and services. Ability to utilize effective interview techniques. Ability to manage time productively. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Hours This position has a flexible schedule between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
