Job Description:
Nebraska Probation is seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Chief Probation Officer for District #4A in Omaha. This executive position is responsible for contributing to systemic leadership and directing the operation of the entire District Probation Office. The ideal candidate serves as the face of the probation district, engaging with stakeholders including judges, law enforcement, politicians, treatment facilities, and community organizations. You will direct all evidence-based probation services designed to enhance community safety while fostering a culture of organizational ownership and psychological safety.
Location:
In-office only. 1701 Farnam St, Ste 100, Omaha, NE 68183 Travel will be required at times.
Work Schedule:
Some non-traditional hours may be required at times.
Salary:
The salary range for the Chief Probation Officer V• is $93,566.42 to $114,001.63 annually. •Starting salary may be determined based on qualifications, education, and experience, subject to fiscal constraints and approval. Job Duties Direct and supervise all district probation staff, including Probation Supervisors, Probation Officers, District Placement Coordinators, Specialized Populations Officers, and administrative support. Manage personnel actions , including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff training, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions. Administer daily operations of the district probation department for the state judicial system, including directing programs and implementing practice improvements. Ensure strict compliance with all system rules, regulations, and federal, state, and local laws. Develop and implement local policies and procedures in conjunction with judges and district probation staff. Execute policy changes directed by the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation. Direct fiscal management , including developing the district budget, reviewing and approving staff-prepared budgets, managing purchasing, tracking inventory, and authorizing expenditures. Prepare operational reports related to department performance, goals, budgets, investigations, personnel, and crime statistics. Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all district staff members. The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
Requirements & Qualifications Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties will be considered. Required Knowledge Managerial principles and supervisory practices. Principles, practices, and procedures of probation services and administration. Federal, State, and local laws , regulations, and court procedures. Rules, regulations, and procedures of the Probation department. Evidence-based probation techniques and procedures. Crisis and emergency management principles and practices. Grant administration and grant preparation concepts. Technical report writing and data documentation. Required Skills Monitoring and evaluating subordinates. Delegating and prioritizing work effectively. Managing small to large district probation staff. Preparing, reviewing, and approving reports and statistical data. Preparing and administering department grants. Handling stressful situations with strong de-escalation skills. Analyzing, recommending, and implementing changes in policies and procedures. Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Using computers and related software applications. Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and outside stakeholders.
