HELLO, WE'RE RENO-SPARKS INDIAN COLONY
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the
  • Numu (Northern Paiute)
  • , •Newe (Western Shoshone)•, and •Washeshu (Washoe)•.
These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group's name means
  • "The People"
  • in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth.
They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.
DAY TO DAY AS A JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER
As a Full-Time Juvenile Probation Officer with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of local youth by addressing behavioral issues directly through intervention and community resource coordination. Your duties will include supervising assigned juveniles to ensure adherence to probation terms, providing counseling and guidance, and facilitating essential home visits. You will prepare impactful pre-disposition reports for the Court, present testimony, and help families navigate the complexities of court appearances. Addressing truancy will be a key focus, as you will investigate reports, collaborate with educational institutions, and educate families about compulsory attendance laws. By working alongside Federal, State, County, and Tribal organizations, you will contribute to the rehabilitation of youthful offenders, actively engage with families to enhance school attendance, and prepare comprehensive reports for the Tribal Court. This position is integral to fostering a safer, more supportive community for our youth in Reno, NV.

To thrive as a Full-Time Juvenile Probation Officer with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a combination of education and practical experience. A minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D., paired with at least two years of higher education in psychology, criminal justice, or social services, is essential. Additionally, two years of professional experience working with at-risk youth is crucial, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and coordination with families and community organizations. Candidates should exhibit strong computer skills for document preparation and reporting, alongside the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, to meet the needs of youth and families. The role may also require travel outside the city, county, and state, so adaptability is key. Finally, successful applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint examination, affirming their commitment to safety and integrity in serving the community. Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of application and be eligible to participate in the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program; must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate and at least two (2) years of education in psychology, criminal justice, social services or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working with at-risk youth involving coordination and communication with families and community organizations and agencies. ability to travel out of the city, county and State as requested or required. ability to work some evening hours in order to meet with youth, families and to attend community meetings. ability to demonstrate moderate to advanced computer skills to produce required reports and documents; and ability to pass an FBI finger prints examination confirming the absence of felony convictions or misdemeanors.
