Job Description

Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Juvenile Probation Officer, where you will play a vital role in guiding at-risk youth toward positive change and community reintegration. In this dynamic position, you will assess juvenile cases, develop tailored intervention plans, and supervise youth on probation to ensure compliance with court orders. Your energetic approach and commitment to social justice will help foster safer communities and empower young individuals to reach their full potential.
Core Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough assessments of juvenile offenders to determine risk levels and needs. Develop and implement individualized case management plans that promote accountability, rehabilitation, and personal growth. Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to motivate youth toward positive behavioral changes. Monitor probation compliance through regular home visits, school visits, and community interactions. Respond swiftly and effectively to crises or violations of probation conditions, employing crisis management skills. Interview juveniles, families, school personnel, and community members to gather relevant information for case evaluations. Type detailed reports documenting case progress, incidents, and recommendations for court review. Requirements Demonstrate proficiency in the use of a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. Must be able to comply with Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) firearm standards. Must be willing and able to testify in court in a clear, concise manner; prepare and submit case reports, pre-sentence investigations, and impose graduated sanctions or incentives as needed. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and juvenile justice systems is recommended but not required. Must be able to identify and respond to potential threats to yourself, court personnel, and the public using appropriate defensive techniques (open hand, joint manipulations, striking/kicking, less-than-Lethal devices (TASER), etc. Strong crisis management skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations calmly and effectively. Excellent interviewing and communication skills to build rapport with youth and their families. Experience in case management, report writing, and maintaining detailed records. Must be able to administer drug and alcohol screenings; install and remove ankle monitors, etc. Ability to work independently while collaborating with community agencies, schools, and law enforcement partners. Must be able to pass a background check and pre-hire drug test. A valid driver's license and the capacity to travel within the community as needed.
