Job Summary:
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
(Duties assigned to this position are not all inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned.)
Essential Functions:
  • Hold offenders accountable and ensure public safety through intervention and enforcement actions.
  • Conduct searches and make arrests when offenders violate conditions of supervision.
  • Complete assessments and develop individualized case plans addressing offender needs.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies (law enforcement, treatment providers, social services) to support rehabilitation and compliance.
  • Testify credibly in court and administrative proceedings.
Essential Duties:
  • Requires strong knowledge of the criminal justice system, parole and probation processes, case management, and behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Applies understanding of human behavior, social service theory, and substance& #8209;use impacts to guide supervision and treatment planning.
  • Prepares clear written documentation, including reports, records, and case or treatment plans.
  • Conducts effective interviews and counseling using established listening, communication, and group& #8209;dynamic principles.
  • Coordinates with partner agencies, community organizations, and law enforcement to support supervision goals.
  • Makes independent decisions, resolves problems, and maintains calm, sound judgment in high& #8209;pressure or confrontational situations.
  • Teaches life, social, and daily& #8209;living skills to adults with varied learning levels while maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintains proficiency in defensive tactics and firearms and adheres to required ethical, legal, and professional standards.
Qualifications Minimum standards are:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen;
  • At least 21 years of age;
  • No convictions by any State or Federal government of a crime punishable by imprisonment in State or Federal prison;
  • Good moral character as determined through background investigation;
  • Pass a physical and psychological examination by a licensed physician and/or psychologist;
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate;
  • Driving record must be free of convictions for hazardous moving violations within the previous three years;
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license;
  • Must pass the POST (Police Officer Selection Test); and
  • Within one year of employment, must possess a basic parole and probation certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). Failure to obtain valid certification is grounds for separation of employment for not meeting an essential qualification.
Tillamook County Qualifications:
Preferred experience in community corrections and/or some college coursework in law enforcement OR satisfactory combination of education, experience and training. Within one year of employment, must possess basic certificate issued by the Board of Public Safety Standards and Training.
